Today's Modern Family
The cast of Modern Family: Jay Pritchett (Ed O'Neill), Gloria Pritchett (Sofia Vergara), Manny Delgado (Rico Rodriguez), Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen), Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell), Luke Dunphy (Nolan Gould), Alex Dunphy (Ariel Winter), Haley Dunphy (Sarah Hyland), Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet), Lily Pritchett-Tucker |
Last fall, ABC started their new hit series Modern Family, which has received incredible reviews. The sitcom revolves around 3 families, which are connected by Jay Pritchett who is the father of Mitchell and Claire. The Pritchett family consists of Jay who remarried a younger, very attractive Latina woman who had her son Manny with her ex-husband. Jay's daughter, Clair, married Phil Dunphy and had 3 children, Haley, Alex, and Luke. Mitchell Pritchett is a gay male who's with Cameron Tucker, raising an adopted vietnamese daughter Lily. This may seem like a confusing family, but it's indeed a "modern family."
Only on its second season, Modern Family has received many awards and positive reviews from the critics. At the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards, Modern Family won Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (pilot episode), and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Eric Stonestreet). Within its first season, the show became the 6th highest rated show on ABC among adults between 18 and 49, and also the 3rd highest rated new show. The second season has raised these percents by 34% already, not even being halfway through.

Like pulling off a band-aid...
“He was a major part of your life; of course you’ll miss him; it’s perfectly normal. It’s like getting a tooth pulled out; after the dentist pulls it, you’re relieved. But how many times do you run your tongue over the spot where it once was ? Probably a hundred times a day.just because it was hurting you, doesn’t mean you don’t notice it. It leaves a gap, and sometimes you see yourself missing it terribly. It’s going to take a while, but it always takes some time. Should you have kept the tooth? No, because it was causing you pain. Pulling the tooth was the right decision, but it’s still going to hurt.”

True Blood: Evil Is Going On
The season 3 cast of True Blood, used to promote the season. |
True Blood Wraps Up the Third Successful Season
True Blood has become one of HBO's hit shows in the recent years, following the pop culture trend of vampires. The series is based off the novel series written by Charlaine Harris, taking parts of each book and making it into an addicting television series. As each season airs, the views and ratings increase just as rapidly. With an episode titled Hitting the Ground, airing August 3, 2010, the series hit an all time high with 5.236 million viewers. With the success of this season, season 4 of True Blood is set to debut during the summer 2011 line up. The series airs 12 episodes per season, which never seems to be enough for its viewers.
The finale of season 3 aired on September 12, 2010, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats as always. Each season the show seems to introduce a new mythical creature, adding them to the already diverse character cast. The main characters consist of vampires, werewolves, fairies, shape shifters, werepanthers, witches, and who knows what else. The big announcement during season 3 is the realization that the main character Sookie Stakehouse (Anna Paquin) is discovered to be a fairy. Tied into the plot, you discover that when vampires drink fairy blood, it allows them to enjoy the sunlight and walk during the day, which to them is the greatest downfall of the vampire lifestyle. Sookie is said to be one of the few fairies left in the world, for vampires always drain their blood entirely.

Going the Distance, and Then Some
Erin and Garret saying goodbye at the airport, confirming their love for each other. |
Going the Distance is a modern day romantic comedy that was just released on September 4, 2010. In it, Erin (Drew Barrymore) and Garret (Justin Long) begin to go on dates while both living in New York City. Erin was only in town for an unpaid internship as a journalist over the summer, when after she'd move back to San Francisco with her older sister Corinne (Christina Applegate). The couple started off not wanting anything serious but discovered they were truly in love with each other and began to have a long distance relationship once Erin returned. The movie deals with the struggles of long distance relationships with eventful twists and turns along the way. You can view the trailer here!
The movie was much different than I ever anticipated, but in the best way possible. The plot was interesting along with a different sense of humor. The actors did an amazing job, well, acting! The movie seemed so realistic and was portrayed perfectly by a couple who themselves have been dating on and off. They starred together back in 2009 on the set of He's Just Not That Into You, another romantic comedy which was released around Valentine's Day.
